Factors we can Directly Influence
There are a number of factors affecting our health, some of which we have a direct influence over and others which we are unable to affect directly. When making changes to our lifestyles, it is important for us to focus our energy primarily on the factors within our control, as there is less benefit to worrying about factors which we are unable to affect.
Diet
One of the most important factors affecting our health is our diet. It is important to ensure we take in a suitable quantity of calories daily. Too few calories can be equally detrimental as too many calories, although the consequences of overeating are generally more easily identified.
The two major health conditions relating to the extremes of too many or too few calories are Obesity and Anorexia, but there are many other conditions which can occur as a result of improper calorie consumption, including a slowing of the metabolism, fatigue and type II diabetes, to name but a few.
The section on Balancing Calories looks at how you can estimate your required daily calorific intake.
In addition to ensuring that your body obtains sufficient numbers of calories, it is equally important to ensure that your body receives all of the nutrients that it requires to function properly. Deficiencies in any of the micro-nutrients discussed in the Nutrient Roles section, can lead to a deterioration of health and the development of Degenerative Disease.
Please read through the pages in the Nutritional Information section to gain a better understanding of how to manage your diet in order to meet your body's requirements and improve you overall health.
