Physical Activity

Another important factor affecting our health is our level of activity. It may seem daunting for many people considering exercising after a period of inactivity, but the guidelines for physical activity for health related benefits are achievable for almost everyone.

In 1995 the English National Physical Activity Guidelines were set out. It was recommended that in order to achieve health benefits, 30 minutes of moderate intensity activity should be carried out at least 5 times per week. Moderate intensity activity is classified as anything from walking, cycling or swimming to climbing the stairs, playing a sport and even cleaning or gardening. In addition, the 30 minutes of activity can be accumulated throughout the day, so it can be easily incorporated into people's lives (e.g. cycle to work, use the stairs, cycle home, walk to the shop, etc.)

Many people prefer to use formal exercise as a means of improving their fitness, body shape and / or state of mind and well-being. In the Exercise Information section I have provided information that will assist you in achieving your health and fitness related goals with respect to formal exercise.

It is known that smoking in particular can increase the chances of the development of Degenerative Disease.
