People who live Manchester are more likely to die from coronary heart disease

People who live Manchester are more likely to die from coronary heart disease compared to everywhere else in the UK according to research.

The report from the British Heart Foundation reports that the area of Tameside in the Manchester city is the UKs ‘heart disease capital’.

BHF say that people living there are three times more likely to suffer from heart problems compared to people who are living in Chelsea and Kensington in London.

There are 132 deaths to 100,000 people in Tameside compared to 39 deaths to 100,000 in the London Borough.

Professor Peter Weissberg, BHF medical director, said: “These latest figures expose staggering inequalities in deaths from heart disease across the UK. But it’s unacceptable that people continue to die from heart attacks, regardless of their postcode.”
